Make your own Homemade Curry Powder at home in just minutes with dried spices. No need to use store-bought blends. My blend is so flavorful and really adds delicious dimension and flavor to your curry dishes.
HOMEMADE CURRY POWDER
This Homemade Curry Powder is just what we all need to have curry anytime we want, quick and fast, and without having to measure each ingredient when that curry craving hits. Keep it stored in your pantry and add it to veggies and plant milk and in less than 30 minutes you will have a delicious homemade vegan curry! This blend I created makes enough for 8 curry dinners!
I simply cannot stop eating curry. Like, borderline addiction. Ever since my aunt bought me the Now Curry spice mix early January of this year, I am constantly making some and eating it with a big bowl and smile on my face. See my to-die-for Sweet Potato White Bean Curry Soup. It’s my all-time favorite curry recipe. Having run out of the Now curry and my addiction not leaving anytime soon, I decided to create my own homemade curry spice blend to suit my taste buds. Then, all I have to do is grab a tablespoon when I want curry, add some veggies to the stove and some plant milk and boom. Easy. Fast. Delicious. Meal.
The fact that this curry spice blend makes enough for 8 curry meals is a major win-win. Talk about easy vegan curry anytime you want it. I also keep chopped veggies in my freezer all the time, which in addition, saves me more time when cooking meals.
I wish you could see all the yummy sauce in my bowl, but I put way too much rice in the bowl, so it soaked it all up. DON’T make that same mistake! This sauce is to die for, so you really want to taste it.
My favorite recipe to use this homemade curry powder is in this Easy Vegan Chickpea Curry!

Just had to make more so I have it on hand for the next round of curries!

Brandi, just a suggestion. I’ve spent about 15 minutes looking for the yellow curry with chickpeas stew that you have pictured in this post. I had made it before so I knew it was someplace, kept searching and did click on this page but didn’t realize there was a 2nd recipe for the actual stew. Would love to see that was a separate recipe page for easy location searches. It’s a keeper. I appreciate your yummy, easy recipes — they are always spot on. XXOO
brandi.doming@yahoo.com
That’s a great idea Lavender! I will create a separate post for that! So glad you enjoy it!

Brandi, great curry spice recipe. A good addition is fenugreek, it gives curry mixes that sweet heady fragrance. I just love it, fenugreek binds all the flavors and when you smell it — it just screams “curry”.
brandi.doming@yahoo.com
I’m so glad you enjoyed it! Yes, I know fenugreek is a standard spice in curry powders, however, it causes me great abdominal pain, among other things I won’t mention, haha, so I try to avoid it!
Adrienne
Hello there,
I noticed that the turmeric powder and Coriander are both measured at 3 tbsp but have a different gram weight?
Is one a lot more dense than the other? I just want to make sure I have the proper measurements.
Thanks!
Adrienne
brandi.doming@yahoo.com
Hi Adrienne! So sorry for the delay, I missed this comment before. Yes, the turmeric is more finely ground than the coriander so it weighs more. 🙂
evelyn
this is so good will definitely make it again . All recipes have been so delicious. Thank you Brandie
brandi.doming@yahoo.com
Wonderful Evelyn, so happy to hear that!
Joella
Brandi, your website and recipes are becoming one of my favorites. I’m older and do not want a page-long recipe to tackle. Your recipes are full of delicious flavors, not too difficult, while maintaining healthy, easy to find ingredients! Thank you for letting us benefit from your efforts of putting these recipes together.
brandi.doming@yahoo.com
So sweet of you to say that Joella! Thank you so much! I hear you too, I need easy in my own life, so that is what is reflected on my blog 🙂
Diane
I have made this three times now
And
It just keeps getting better
While I don’t use cashew or coconut milk
I do use rice/quinoa milk
So I may not get the thickening that you do
And
I serve it over cauliflower rice
Yum
Your spice blend is delicious
Thank you for a warming dish
Perfect for our cold wet days
Here in Texas. (Wet and cold for now)

I’m so very happy you love my curry spice blend Diane, thank you so much for letting me know! I’m in Texas, too! 🙂
Jean
Are the amounts correct for the first two ingredients in the curry spice blend? They both say 3 T but the grams are different. I’m assuming because grams are by weight?
thanks!
Looking forward to trying this!
brandi.doming@yahoo.com
Hi Jean! Yes, that is because it’s by weight, so they may vary slightly. You can just do the tablespoon measurements, that is totally fine with this.
Sherry
I will love to make some curry. I have a husband who suffers from an autoimmune disorder and it makes him avoid hot or spicy foods. He’s middle eastern and loves curries. I will make your curry without the spice because the flavor is in the other ingredients. Can’t wait to try it.
Kim
I have about 10 different curry blends now, always glad to add another, will be trying this on your veg. Curry recipe tonight!
brandi.doming@yahoo.com
Wonderful, let me know how it goes! I actually ate some for lunch today!
Christina
This is a fantastic recipe. I seriously love it. The curry spice blend is seriously perfection. I honestly think it is my favorite curry spice blend to date. Seriously delicious. I love how simple the recipe is but yet it was so delicious and satisfying. I think I could eat it everyday for real. Thanks for another awesome recipe girl!
brandi.doming@yahoo.com
I’m so very happy you loved this Christina! Thank you so much for such wonderful feedback, I really appreciate it and your sweet words!
Lucie
Oh wow, I love this mix Brandi! Especially the cinnamon in there sounds like a great mix-in. Can’t wait to compare it with my store-bought mix (but my money is on this awesome creation of yours)
Dana
I made this quick curry for the first time yesterday (after putting together the spice blend last week) and it was a huge hit! Sooo delish! I just realized as I was typing that I forgot about the lime juice to finish … oh well, next time! I’m so happy because it is so simple and easy and healthy yet so incredibly yummalicious!
(And now I feel like I am in a Mary Worth comic strip because I ended every sentence with an exclamation point … but they’re deserved! LOL)
brandi.doming@yahoo.com
I’m so happy you loved this Dana, thank you so much for the feedback and letting me know!!
Sara
Made this last night and both my hubby and I really liked it. We added some Napa cabbage and served over black rice. Thanks for the easy and yummy recipe!
brandi.doming@yahoo.com
Wonderful, so happy to hear you both enjoyed it Sara, thank you so much for the feedback!
Christina
Awesome I love the idea of homemade curry spice blend. And I am sure it is the perfect curry mix, because after all you made it 🙂 Love the recipe it looks perfect, simple and so delicious. I really could go for that right now. I haven’t been cooking myself lately because things got hectic and I really haven’t had much time. But I do want to get back into cooking soon and I certainly have this recipe in mind for when I do start cooking again. Love your recipes because I know they are going to turn out good. With the very little time I have it would be hugely disappointing to spend time making a recipe and have it not be good. With your recipes I don’t have to worry about that. They are awesome every time. I have never been disappointed with one of your recipes.

I love that you made your own curry spice blend!! I can totally see this as a great gift for people for the holidays too. I don’t know much about curry spices at all, but I’m sure your mix is delicious because you know your spices, and especially your heat!!
brandi.doming@yahoo.com
Yes, totally a great gift, I agree! Thanks girl! I know this is just what you would want for Christmas too, bahaha!
Linda @ Veganosity
I’m right there with you in regards to being addicted to curry. Love it! I make my own garam masala and Mexican spice mix. It’s less expensive and I get to be as creative as I like. Great spice mix!
Alisa @ Go Dairy Free
Homemade spice versions are the best! Your curry powder uses wonderful “everyday” spices, too, which I love.
brandi.doming@yahoo.com
Thank you so much Alisa! I wanted it to be super simple!
Brandi
Hi JJ! I have noted on the directions exactly how much to use at separate times, so you will know what to use. You need 3/4 cup water total but all is not added at once which you’ll see noted clearly. Hope that helps!
Mel | avirtualvegan.com
I make a curry at least once a week. We all love it! Spices are so wonderful and an individual spice blend is a great idea. Personally though I just throw it all in and never measure it when I am cooking for myself! ;O) I am a lazy cook!
brandi.doming@yahoo.com
Precisely why I came up with this blend, because I’m a lazy cook. It is annoying to have to get out a ton of spices all the time, this makes life much easier and quicker. Plus curry spices are pretty strong, so a little bit more accuracy is necessary, especially for readers. This blend sure does come in handy now. It is MUCH easier to throw in a tbsp of this blend than to have to get out 8 or so spices to make curry!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Yes! Having a GOOD curry spice blend on hand at all times is a must!! A go-to for sure when I don’t know how to flavor something 😛
brandi.doming@yahoo.com
Right?!
Jenn
I definitely think it’s hard to find a GOOD curry spice blend in the store. Good idea making your own! I love curry!
brandi.doming@yahoo.com
I agree, there are so many and they all have a bit of different taste and making my own blend means it is amazing every time!
Florian @ContentednessCooking
This looks so good, Brandi! Love curry so this is right up my alley! I coldest it in soups on pasta, potatoes, bread and so much more. Your curry recipe looks delicious, I guess it would be also delicious with brown rice pasta! Great recipe as always, yum!
brandi.doming@yahoo.com
Thank you Florian!
Natalie | Feasting on Fruit
Homemade curry just got extra homemade! This looks delicious! And I love actually knowing what all spices are in curry since until now I really had no clue. Plus you can tweak it and customize a bit, like I know which ones to tone down a little for my spice-averse palette haha! Even if the rice did soak up all that marvelous sauce, the thought of curry soaked rice is just as enticing as actually seeing it😋
brandi.doming@yahoo.com
Thank you Natalie! The curry sauce is the most divine and soul-satisfying part so when it gets soaked into the rice, the flavor is much less intense which you don’t want. But no worries, I’ll just make more, haha!
Jason C.
I only recently learned curry was not its own plant … but a mix of spices.
brandi.doming@yahoo.com
I’m so happy you loved both recipes, thank you Jason!
Trinity Bourne
Me too!!! Big curry fan here. It’s really exciting to see what you favourite blend of spices is.
This sounds absolutely delicious Brandi.
brandi.doming@yahoo.com
Thank you so much Trinity!

I concur. Made both the curry itself AND the soup. Wow ! Keeper !
