Learn how to make a Homemade Golden Milk Spice Mix in just 5 minutes! Using 6 spices, plant-based milk and sweetener, you will have a delicious and healthy warm golden milk in just a few minutes!
I love, love golden milk. I drink it near daily using my Turmeric Latte recipe. That recipe is fantastic and is loved by readers, which uses fresh ginger and fresh turmeric and several spices. It is phenomenal, but since I want to drink it daily, it takes a bit more work and time than I want to fool with on some days.
So, I used that recipe to turn it into a homemade golden milk spice mix. This way, all you have to do is add the spice mix with milk and sweetener and have it ready to go daily in just 5 minutes! I’ve had one every day for the past week almost and it is SO delicious, comforting and feels so good. It has replaced my coffee as well, as I know it is much better for me.
INGREDIENTS NEEDED
You will need 6 spices. Turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and black pepper.
HOW TO MAKE GOLDEN MILK
Step 1: Simply add all of the spices to a bowl and whisk well. Or simply add to a jar and shake vigorously until well incorporated.
Step 2: To make this easy golden milk recipe, add 2 cups of plant-based milk (your favorite) to a small pot. I used a combo of cashew and lite coconut milk, so it is rich and not watery. Keep in mind, that the richness will vary if you change the milks.
Step 3: Add the maple syrup and 1 tablespoon of the golden milk spice mix. Turn to medium heat and whisk well. Let it form small bubbles just around the edges of the pot, do not let it boil! The milk will look brown in the beginning but after it thoroughly heats through, all that turmeric will turn it the beautiful golden color you see in the photos. This will take 3-4 minutes.

Homemade Golden Milk Spice Mix
Ingredients
GOLDEN MILK SPICE MIX
- 3 tablespoons ground turmeric
- 1 1/2 tablespoons ground ginger (2 Tbsp for spicier)
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1 1/2 teaspoons ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 to 1 1/2 teaspoons ground black pepper (depending on how spicy you want it)
GOLDEN MILK
- 2 cups favorite plant-based milk (see NOTE)
- 4 teaspoons maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon golden milk spice mix
NOTE
- I used a combo of cashew and lite coconut milk, so it is rich and not watery. Keep in mind, that the richness will vary if you change the milks. Watery milks will make the spices taste less rich.
Instructions
- Add all of the spices to a jar and shake vigorously until well mixed.
- To make the golden milk, add 1 tablespoon of the spice mix to a small pot, with the 2 cups of milk and maple syrup. Whisk very well and turn the heat to medium-low.
- Let the milk come to just forming bubbles along the edges and whisk continuously for 3-4 minutes until well heated through. DO not let it boil! The milk will look brown in the beginning but after it thoroughly heats through, all that turmeric will turn it the beautiful golden color you see in the photos.
- Taste and add more sweetener if desired. Divide into 2 mugs and serve immediately! It is normal for a bit of the spices to settle at the bottom, as it is a spice mix, but I just stir it a couple of times while drinking. The spice mix will keep for 6 months, although if you make it daily, you will use it much quicker.
Notes

This is sooooo goood! I add a splash of vanilla extract to my mug for extra richness.
For a quick fix, I just put some of the mix in the mug, fill it halfway with boiling hot water and the rest of the way with soy milk. A spoonful of maple syrup (and the vanilla) is terrific.
Ohh so happy you loved it Cheryl!!
Looking forward to trying this recipe – but there’s one inconsistency I’d like clarification on. The top of the recipe says it yields 14 servings. The bottom says there are about 7 tbsps of spice after assembling. The recipe says to use 1 tbsp per serving. That suggests the recipe yields 7 servings. Which one is off? Thanks!
Hi Angela, sorry for any confusion. I updated the notes to explain better. The recipe uses 1 tablespoon of the spice mix but yields two 8 oz mugs, therefore making 14 servings.
Love love love this! Making it for Christmas gifts for a few special people and including the recipe!
Awww I love that idea!
I saw this on television and wasn’t sure if I would like it so I looked up the recipe on your site and I absolutely love it thank you so very much!
INCREDIBLE!!!!! That just about sums it up for me. Thank you.
Yayyyy George!!
Yay!! Thanks George!
I made this last weekend —only had two bananas—subbed applesauce to make up the difference. I used brown sugar and baked it for one hour in a 9” no stick cake pan. I also doubled the topping amount since using the pan meant the top is a greater surface area than a loaf pan. It turned out wonderfully! I just wish there could be a way to keep the crumble crispy into the next day at least! Thank you for this recipe!
Greetings, I hope all is well. i haven’t tried the recipe, however I love the blend of spices and wanted to ask if I could add this mixture to some hot tea?
Hi! I have not tried that but it might make it really grainy if there’s no milk, because the milk in golden milk is what helps to absorb the spices.
If I was to add Cardamom to the ingredients here, how much cardamom would you suggest? Thanks : )
Hi! Cardamom is really strong, so maybe no more than 1/2 teaspoon to the whole mix.
NUTMEG , CLOVES & CARDAMOM MAKE IT SPECIAL😋
PLUS CEYLON CINNAMON IS IMPORTANT.
🌺✌🏽💚🌺
I divided this by 3 and added it to a half cup of sugar. Sprinkle over fresh fruit, walnuts and yogurt. Fantastic for a light breakfast.
Oh I love this idea!!
Great taste very easy to make thank you
Soo yummy. I made sure to use Ceylon cinnamon since that’s the one with proven benefits for blood sugar. This is a really well balanced spice blend. I think I will try adding a sprinkle of cardamon as other comments have mentioned, but it’s perfect as is.
I made a big batch in a spare jar and have been drinking it almost every day. It’s good with oat milk, or I’ve also added a tablespoon to my Orgain vanilla shake and warmed it up for a cozy start to the day
I am so happy to hear how much you love the recipe, Korin, thank you so much for sharing!
GREAT RECIPE! 😋
YESSS CEYLON CINNAMON!
Delicious! I did add cardamon. did not add nutmeg. I used cows milk and maple syrup. I am going to experiment by adjusting the blends. This is a real treat to drink.
Easy to prepare and tastes delicious. I felt sleepy immediately aft6 I drank it in the middle of the day. I will drink just before bed next time
That is wonderful to hear Gloria!
I am confused, One place the recipe reads 2 cups of milk and then in the notes it reads 1 cup of milk…..
Sorry for the confusion, I don’t know why I put that, I removed it.
I use my frother to mix everything together, I also add cardamom to my mix. Then I “strain” the almond milk into a cup. It was absolutely amazing!! When I want a little kick I add some Think coffee and used Manukau honey as my sweetener *yum
you should add cardemon as a spice to use for this recipe as it is extremely warming and traditional to put in golden milk and raw honey not maple syrup. Maple syrup is just pure sugar and not healthy. Raw honey has a plethora of health benefits.
Feel free to add cardamom if you like. I use it in my chai spice blends, not here. I have used maple syrup for years and will continue, it is healthier than traditional white sugar because it is not refined. Also, I am vegan and this is a vegan website, therefore I do not use honey. I have never liked the taste of it either.
Delicious!!
