A delicious dairy-free Vegan Golden Milk Turmeric Latte full of immune-boosting vitamins and anti-inflammatory benefits! Made with fresh spices like turmeric and ginger and nutmeg, cinnamon, black pepper and vanilla for a delicious and creamy latte!

VEGAN TURMERIC LATTE

Have you noticed that golden milk and turmeric has kind of taken over the internet? The first time I made a turmeric latte was probably 2 or 3 years ago when I made one to help my hubby deal with some gout pain. He refused to drink it though, lol. He was not a fan of turmeric at all. Well, today I’m calling all ginger, spice and turmeric fans. Is that you? If so, then I have a delicious healthy immune-boosting drink for you. If you are not a fan of turmeric, then just skip this post, lol. My hubby hates turmeric and you should have seen his face when I poured this into the glass. I died laughing. He was seriously grossed out. Hey, more for me.

I have been replacing my coffee lately with this dairy-free turmeric latte. Trying to begin my day with a healthier choice and needing it to be full of kick and flavor, this turmeric latte does the trick. It has a good dose of fresh ginger, fresh turmeric, nutmeg, cinnamon, black pepper and pure maple syrup. It’s so super healthy and anti-inflammatory, yet delicious.

Overhead image of 2 glasses of vegan spiced turmeric lattes with fresh ginger root.

I absolutely LOVE ginger and I love spices, so there is a lot of spices in this turmeric latte and it has a big kick.

WHAT ARE THE INGREDIENTS IN A TURMERIC LATTE?

Also called Golden milk, to make this you will need:

  • plant-based milk
  • fresh ginger
  • fresh turmeric
  • cinnamon
  • nutmeg
  • black pepper
  • vanilla
  • maple syrup

HOW DO YOU MAKE A TURMERIC LATTE?

First, add all of your ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth.

Second, pour the turmeric latte into a small pot over medium-low heat and simmer just until hot. Pour in a glass or mug and enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups almond milk (see NOTES please, I used the DREAM brand which is MUCH creamier than other brands, see below for subs)
  • 1 cup (240g) filtered water
  • 1-2 tablespoons pure maple syrup (I used 1 1/2 and found it plenty sweet, as I wanted this to be really healthy)
  • 1 1/2 inch knob peeled (12g) fresh ginger, roughly chopped (This gives a nice gingery kick. Reduce to 1 inch for less spicy.)
  • 1 to 1 1/2 inch peeled knob (10-12g fresh turmeric OR 1 tsp ground dried turmeric)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper and pinch of sea salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • optional: pinch of cloves

Instructions

  • Add the milk, water, syrup, ginger, turmeric, cinnamon, nutmeg, pepper, vanilla and salt to a blender or food processor. Process until completely smooth. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer to catch any shreds from the ginger and extra spices. I do this twice so it's extra smooth.
  • Taste and adjust spices or sweetener if needed. If you didn't weigh the fresh turmeric then you may need to add more to reach the bright yellow color. Add to taste preference.
  • Pour the mixture into a small pot over medium-low heat and simmer gently for a few minutes just until heated through. You do not want to thicken it or boil it, just heat it through. Strain for a smooth texture and serve.

Notes

  • Regarding the milk: Different milks will give varying results. I used the Dream brand almond milk which is higher fat and VERY creamy compared to every other almond milk brand. So that is why I didn't use all milk and did water for part of the latte. If you are using a thinner milk like oat or rice, you will want to use all milk. If wanting to use lite coconut milk, I would do half milk and half water. You may realize after the first try what you would like on the next batch. Also, weighing the ginger and turmeric will yield a more accurate result since knob sizes vary greatly. You can always adjust to taste preference as well.
  • Nutrition is based on using the Dream almond milk brand, it will greatly vary depending on milk used.

I have been on a quest recently, to create warm, yummy lattes that are sugar free, artificial sweetener free, and dairy free. Of the dozens of recipes I’ve tried over the past few months, this is, hands down, the best yet!!! I. Am. Hooked.

Why do you put the vanilla in while it’s on the stove I stead of afterwards?

Because it’s just meant to be a mild flavor enhancer and I don’t want to taste any of the alcohol part and it slightly cooks away. You can add if afterwards if you like though!

I made this this afternoon and it is truly fabulous. It’s warm from the ginger/tumeric combo and a little spicy with a really nice mouth feel. And smelled absolutely heavenly. My tummy thanks you. Confession..I drank the whole 2 servings my self at work 😉.

hah, my other half feels exact same about turmeric as your hubby!
I’m not the biggest fan of the turmeric myself, but I do appreciate it for many health benefits it delivers, and always trying to add some to my smoothies or soups. Never tried turmeric latte, but will be definitely giving it a go as it looks delicious! And good luck with the book Brandi, it’s going to be awesome for sure!

This is one of my favourite drinks right here, especially in autumn and winter. So warming and so beneficial for the health. It’s great that you used almond milk with a higher fat content since fat increases the absorption of turmeric 😀

Really enjoyed this soothing hot drink. Im at home with a nasty bug and today had the energy to make something other than a glass of water. My blender didn’t pulverize the ginger but I like the little chunks, I have a fine grater which would solve that issue in the future. Thanks for the recipe!

I have been trying to get more of these powerhouse foods in my diet . I will be looking forward to this! You will be seeing a lot from me 🙂 Wish I could have been a tester on this! Just a little history on myself. I have been on a spiritual/ professional quest for about 2 years. I have felt trapped behind my cubicle for many years and finally made the plunge to stay at home full time with my toddler ,Teagen. I want to teach him, and feed his body and soul. I also want to be able to dedicate my time to my own dream and cause I am passionate about. I have been a quiet food blog lover for many, many years and have decided to start my own vegan food blog within the next 6 months! You are a inspiration to me I have loved your recipes and the fun layout of your blog. Thanks for the inspiration !

    Brandi,
You are truly talented – your drink is spectacular! I had faith that it would be good because I have tried several of your recipes already. This drink will be My “go to” during cool weather, and the first recipe that I have tried with turmeric. I used dry spices. I am so inspired with this recipe that I will try with fresh ginger and turmeric next to get the full benefits of these spices! Thanks for sharing!

I’ve tried different recipes for Turmeric Latte, this is – by far – the best one! I used soy milk and left out the water, it came out sooooo creamy! I made sure I weighed the ginger and turmeric, and the taste was superb! Thank you Brandi : )

Let me say that I don’t like turmeric latte. But I am doing acid reflux diet and can’t have my regular coffee with soy creamer. So I wanted to try this thing again but I wanted to try it from someone I trust. And boy oh boy, this is unexpectedly good for a turmeric latte and it just warms my heart… It satisfies my craving for something creamy and sweet and a tad spicy (from the ginger). I did use 1 1/2 -2 cups of oatly and skipped water, added a piece of small frozen ginger, 1/2 tsp of turmeric, a good splash of maple syrup, a tiny splash of vanilla extract, 3-4 shakes of cinnamon, 2 shakes of cloves and 1 shake of nutmeg. I generally don’t measure these kinds of recipes but I measured turmeric just to see how much of it I would tolerate. Thank you!!

Thank you for your recipe I will certainly try it. I saw someone commented on tue stain that turmeric leaves on the Vitamix container… it bothered me too. I found that you can clean it fast and easily with baking soda. I poured about 1/2 cup baking soda in a small bowl, added some water to make a paste, but not too thick. Then with a small kitchen rag, I rub it vigourously on the inside of the container until it disappears… wow! All gone! I thought that maybe you could add it to tour post and website, many people use Vitamix.

Thank you for sharing! I’ve never had an issue of it staining mine after making it many times, but I rinse my vitamix immediately after using it, so I suppose that’s why!
