NO freaking bananas either! Because it seems every smoothie has bananas and well, then the smoothie tastes like bananas!
This one just tastes like straight up mint chocolate chip. It is shocking too since the ingredients don’t seem that way. But the fresh mint, peppermint extract and creaminess from the milk and avocado totally take over and it is so delicious!
My daughter I’m telling you inhaled this and had NO clue it’s full of spinach and avocado, haha. She just thought it tasted just like mint chocolate chip ice cream. So, a major win! A healthy smoothie with an extra boost of protein and that tastes like ice cream. Totally kid-approved!

Vegan Mint Chocolate Chip Protein Smoothie
Ingredients
- 1 cup (240g) creamy higher fat plant milk FROZEN into ice cubes (I used the Malk almond brand because it's creamier and higher fat than traditional almond milk)
- 1/2 cup (120g) fresh creamy plant milk
- 2 handfuls (30g) fresh spinach
- 1/4 scant cup (4g) fresh mint leaves
- 1/2 of a large avocado
- 2 tablespoons (40) pure maple syrup or preferred sweetener
- 1 scoop sweetened vegan vanilla or match protein powder (I use and love Sprout Living ) 20% off if you use my code “thevegan8”
- 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon peppermint extract
- 3/4 cup ice cubes
- 2 tablespoons (30g) vegan dark chocolate chips
- I use this scale.
Instructions
- Make sure to freeze the 1 cup milk into ice cubes, so the smoothie is slushy and cold like ice cream, it makes a difference! Weigh for accuracy in flavor if possible!
- Add everything to blender except the chocolate chips. Blend until smooth and creamy. Taste and adjust sweetener if needed and add more mint extract if needed. Be careful as it can easily overpower. The combo of fresh mint and extract tastes incredible! My protein powder is sweet so I only needed 2 tbsp syrup and it was perfect.
- After it tastes like you want, add the chocolate chips and briefly blend so there is bits all throughout just like the ice cream.

I made this weeks ago when you first posted the recipe. I couldn’t believe it would actually taste like mint ice cream (one of my faves!) but it did! So delish. Creamy, minty, little hints of chocolate. This has become a regular! Thank you!
Yay, so wonderful to hear, thank you Tracie!
I made this smoothie today and it was OUTRAGEOUSLY delicious!! Mint chocolate chip was always my favorite ice cream growing up and this gives you all the same flavors, but it is actually good for you! It will definitely join my regular smoothie rotation. Thank you for such a great recipe!
Hi! I just made your mint chocolate chip smoothie and I just had to comment. I’m not even a fan of mint choc chip but it looked so interesting I had to try it. I’ve been vegan almost 16 years and let me tell you O M G! I could not believe my tastebuds! How can something so easy and healthy taste this good. Idk how many servings it was supposed to be but I licked the glass clean! 🤭🤭 Your recipes truly are unique. Each one is better than the last. So thank you!! 💚🌱💚🌱
This is such incredible feedback and kind words, thank you so so much Donna!!
Hi Brandi, as soon as this recipe landed in my email, I had to try it out. It didn’t hurt that I also had some expiring spinach and avocado to use up. I also grow mint in the backyard so I had plenty of that to use. I did not have any frozen plant based milk so I just used 1 1/2 cups from the refrigerator. It was delicious! The addition of the choc chips at the end sealed the deal on the mint chocolate chip. I don’t use Instagram, but enjoy receiving your correspondence in my email. Thank you very much.
Hi Kelly! Oh ya, I’m so thrilled to hear you loved it!! Thanks for making it! Try freezing it for a little bit next time and then you’ll really get the ice cream effect, haha!
LOVE IT!
Wonderful, so glad to hear it!! Thanks for the review!
