MY GO-TO VEGAN PROTEIN SMOOTHIE
This is the smoothie so many of you that have been following me on Instagram love so much! Due to its popularity, I wanted to finally put it on the blog.
I have been making this Vegan Protein Smoothie near daily for over a year now and it is by far one of the greatest additions I’ve made to my diet.
I used to struggle big time with a sugar addiction, to where I NEEDED dessert every single day. That would be fine if it was just a small treat or a couple of cookies, bites, etc. But I had an issue with making batch after batch and could easily finish a tray of cookies in one day, lol.
I felt super addicted and it really started to make me crazy because I could feel that need for sugar. I have been super addicted to sweets for as long as I can remember.
Once I started making these smoothies, I avoided processed sweets for several weeks, resisting it, even though it was super hard at first.
But I truly believe if you have an addiction to something, you need to avoid it 100% until you get it under control, or it will never go away. All I can say is, WOW, it worked! I can honestly say I did not crave sweets at all for months following this change. I started baking again because I always loved to bake, but I would only want a couple of bites and put the rest in the fridge/freezer.
I have never experienced that in my life.
I now can bake and enjoy desserts again, but I truly only want a few bites and I’m satisfied. But I believe it’s because I avoided desserts for quite awhile. I would never tell somebody to avoid any food or sweets because I don’t believe in restriction. UNLESS, it’s something that has taken control over you and you feel addicted and it’s not good for you.
For me, personally, the sweets had control over me. Bottom line, eating too much sugar is bad for our health.
Having these fruit smoothies not only satisfy that sweet craving, they are filling, nutritious, good for you and DELICIOUS!

Vegan Protein Smoothie (To Curb Sugar Cravings)
Ingredients
- 2 cups (280g) frozen strawberries
- 1/2 heaping cup (80g) frozen blueberries
- 3 tablespoons (30g) hemp seeds
- 1/4 - 1/2 cup frozen kale
- 1/2 lemon, juiced
- 1/4 cup raw oats
- 2 scoops (38g) Sprout Living vanilla lucuma vegan protein powder (Use my code "thevegan8" to save 20% off)
- water only as needed to blend, about 1/2 cup or so
Instructions
- I thaw the fruit for about 20-30 minutes (start the thawing during my workout) or so to make it soft before blending so that I don’t need to add too much water-otherwise it dilutes the flavor. It turns out really sweet this way. Only add as much water as you need to blend. I drink these daily.

If I could give this smoothie more than 5 stars, I would! I love how nutrient-dense it is, and it was so very filling. The second time I made it, I cut the oats and hemp seeds in half, and used coconut water instead of plain. It also satisfied my sweet tooth, and felt like I was having a treat. I can’t wait to make it again!

Hi! I just purchased the smoothie packets, so thank you for that! So…am I reading this correctly that this particular smoothie is 570 calories? Yikes!
brandi.doming@yahoo.com
Correct, but it is easily adjustable. Just reduce the hemp seeds by half and omit the oats and that’ll knock off almost 200 calories. It’s a smoothie that I use after intense workouts, but it’s not set in stone.

I have struggled to find protein shakes I can eat regularly because I just haven’t been a fan until now. I now eat the smoothie everyday and I actually crave it. It is the perfect complete meal with protein and healthy fat!

So very happy to hear this Melanie!!
Jill
How many carbs (I’m diabetic)? Thanks!
brandi.doming@yahoo.com
48 grams! Mostly from the fruit and oats.

Please post macros with your recipes.
I love your recipes and would really appreciate having the macros available. Ty!

Thank you Lynne! I do when I can! I have a very busy schedule so it’s hard to have time to do it for all but I did add the calories and protein to this one 🙂
Sage
I make this and love it. I also find that if I add a scant 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon my blood sugar 1-2 hours after is often less than it was before I drank it.

That is so wonderful to hear Sage!

This smoothie is a game changer! It has the right amount of sweetness to feel like you’re having a treat, so great to curb the cravings for sugar! It’s great both with and without the oats, and do versatile, I subbed out half the strawberries for cherries and it was so delicious. I love this smoothie both after a workout and in the morning.

Thank you so much Tara for the awesome review!
Cheryl
Oh man, your Post Workout smoothie is great !! I used 2 cups cherries (instead of strawberries) and added 2 TBS flax. Love it !!! I’ve even added 1 1/2 -2 TBS Unsweetened Dark Cocoa powder. Excellent !! Trying to curb my sugar addiction as well. I’ve done it before…

Thank you so much for the review Cheryl!
