Learn how to make the most delicious Vegan Creamy BBQ Chickpeas and Lentils using simple wholesome ingredients and a homemade bbq sauce!

creamy bbq chickpeas over white rice

We all love easy and quick vegan dinners, am I right? These vegan creamy bbq chickpeas and lentils fit the bill. You only need a few simple ingredients and about 15 minutes to make this plant-based dinner!

It’s no secret how much I love barbecue sauce, like these Skillet BBQ Baked Beans! I love this recipe because the texture from both the chickpeas and lentils is so good.

Bonus that the recipe is high in vegan protein, too.

HOW TO MAKE BBQ CHICKPEAS AND LENTILS

Add the bbq sauce ingredients to a large bowl, whisk well.

Add the chickpeas and lentils to a pan with the barbecue sauce over medium heat.

Once simmering, cover and cook about 5-10 minutes until it has thickened some. Don’t over cook it or you will cook all the sauciness away.

Serve over anything you like…rice, in a buddha bowl, etc.

Loved it! I had leftover though as it’s just me to eat it, will this freeze?

I knew this was going to be good, but I had no idea how good! It was absolutely amazing! The flavor was outstanding. Not too sweet, not too spicy, just right. I doubled the recipe to work for my family of 4, which is good because there’s barely enough left for one lunch serving tomorrow. Needless to say, we all loved it!

Wow! We’ve been working in the yard all day and realized it was dinner time and we were hungry. Discovered this recipe with a Google search and it is one of the best dishes I’ve ever made! There’s only the 2 of us and there’s barely a serving left for lunch tomorrow. This is 10 stars! Delicious, fast, and pantry friendly. We served it with creamy polenta and sautéed kale, with a squeeze of lime! I can’t wait to explore more recipes on this site.

This was soooo yummy! I ate it plain without anything else. You didn’t list how many servings it makes so I used that as my excuse to eat it all! Your recipes are always so unique and delicious! 💚🌱💚

This is so tasty and so easy to make! Almost reminds me of a healthy baked bean recipe but better! I paired it with rice, corn, avocado, and some sautéed greens! Yum!

Sooooo simple and sooooo delicious. Bold flavor. First night, served over rice with vegan naan bread. The following night, I spooned over a baked sweet potato. Both equally tasty. This WILL be going into my meal rotation.
    Thanks! Brandi

Love this! perfect flavor hits. I rarely can find Lentils in a can, so I have tried the Steamed ones from Trader Joes or even better, just steam my own in the instant pot. This is my go to all the time!

I was looking for something new to make for lunch so I just came to your website and saw this recipe at the top. It sounded so good and I had all the ingredients (minus lentils, but I had 2 cans of chickpeas) so I whipped it up in no time. It is SO good. I added cubes of super firm tofu and put it on top of brown rice with some green onions and arugula on the side to try and get some greens. Super healthy, easy, quick and delicious meal. Thank you so much for continuing to share such wonderful recipes!

Hi I just made it,, ( couln’t find lentils in a can so I instant pot some dry ones) and it’s not a surprise because every recipes you gives are amazingly delicious. My question is since I’m the only vegan in the house,, how long will it keep in the fridge and can I put it in smaller containers to freeze? Oh and for how long can I keep it frozen before it’s not good? Will serve it over brown rice 👍💓 thanks again, will be watching my emails for more goodies from you. Truly a fan Love Ya xxoo

So sorry I missed this comment Diane before! I have not tried freezing this since I just created the recipe recently but I’m guessing it would be fine for awhile since it would be frozen. It would keep 3-5 days in the fridge.

Hi Shirley! I suppose so! The whole recipe is basically my homemade sauce so you’ll just be mixing canned beans with bottled bbq sauce, haha, but you can totally do that if you prefer!

I loved this recipe, especially how simple and fast it was to make! I needed to double it for my family size. I used 2 cans chickpeas, 1 can lentils and 1 can corn. I doubled the sauce. Perfect! Well make this again when I need something super quick.

I hate to be that person, but I don’t like chickpeas. Wondering what other bean would go well with the lentils in the place of chickpeas?

    Hi,
I’m having a hard time finding canned lentils. Can I just cook some dry lentils ahead of time and measure out 15oz for this recipe? I assume that would work?

I made this the other day and used black beans and chickpeas. I also added garlic powder to-taste and it was delicious. I served it over white rice. It will probably give me about 5-6 servings. Also, it is super easy to make and smells great while it’s cooking. Thanks!

Ok…these bbq chickpea and lentils are amazing!! I doubled the recipe as part of my meal prep for the week. I’m using them in a southwestern bowl with the bbq chickpeas and lentils, avocado, brown rice, kale, green onions and corn with a twist of lime juice! I already made a mini bowl to taste test and there is so much flavour I don’t even need to add dressing! These are healthy, protein packed…and SO easy to make!! Thanks for sharing your delicious recipe 🤗
