Vegan Desserts Using Sweet Potatoes! From ice cream to cookies to fudge to pies, the super healthy sweet potato has a place even in desserts!
VEGAN SWEET POTATO DESSERTS
Hi, I’m Brandi and I’m obsessed with sneaking in sweet potatoes in my desserts. I feel like today’s post should come with that “warning”. I’ve been doing it for over 5 years and there is no end in sight, sorry, haha. Y’all really seemed to love my last 2 roundup posts…20 Vegan Recipes to Wow Non-Vegans resulted in the most traffic a new post has ever received and then my 13 Best Vegan Potato Soup Recipes has also been a big hit.
You might have noticed I’ve been a little obsessed with putting potatoes in desserts, specifically sweet potatoes, since way back when….2012.Β Potatoes are my very favorite food of all food and if I run out of potatoes in my house, a pure panic is about to happen. So, while I have dozens and dozens of potato-based savory recipes, it’s only fitting that I would have started putting them in desserts, too. I must say, when the right amount is used, it gives desserts added moisture, body and even flavor.
So, let’s get to the 12 Vegan Desserts Using Sweet Potatoes!
By the way, I do not use large amounts of potato (except in the pudding which is masked by chocolate) in each of these recipes because it’s not meant to TASTE like sweet potato, but rather to aid in moisture, texture, body and natural sweetness but none of them taste like you are eating a sweet potato. They just taste like dessert.
Mexican Chocolate Sweet Potato Pudding…just enough to give body and creaminess, but not enough to detect the potato. I don’t want mashed potatoes for dessert, lol.
Β Dark Chocolate Chipotle Sweet Potato Fudge
Vegan Chocolate Sweet Potato Tart
Low-Fat Gluten-free Vegan Iced Oatmeal Cookies…this is my recent cookie post where I used sweet potatoes and seed butter for the moisture. Worked out perfectly.
Sweet Potato Chocolate Chip Muffins
Sweet Potato Caramel…yes, caramel. This is what you will want to put on the above muffins…..oh, and everything else too!
Sweet Potato Chocolate Peppermint Ice Cream…the one that started it all, haha! My very first recipe (dessert) using sweet potatoes way back in 2012.
Cinnamon Roll Pumpkin Pie….hey, the sweet potato wanted in on the fun too, parties aren’t just for pumpkins, ya know.
4 Ingredient Chocolate Ice Cream…if you don’t know this one yet, you must be a new subscriber, lol! It is by far my most popular ice cream.
5 Ingredient Peanut Butter Ice Cream...this one shortly followed the success of the chocolate one.
Sweet Potato Caramel Chocolate Chip Blondies…if you are wondering how good these are, don’t. Just go read the reviews at the bottom of the page. That will convince you.
Vegan Toffee Sweet Potato Fudge
There you have it…my obvious obsession with sweet potatoes. If this doesn’t get you in the mood to go buy an abundance of sweet potatoes, I don’t know what will. Either you are drooling by the end of this post or are thinking I have a serious problem.
For an added bonus, this isn’t actual sweet potato, but it is yukon gold potato in this vanilla ice cream and it’s a potato in dessert, so it deserved a mention. This has been quite the hit with you all and your kiddos, so if you haven’t tried it yet, give it a whirl!

Hi Brandi, thanks for this list. I made the pancakes for lunch last week and they were both delicious and filling! We even had leftovers for another day. Thanks for another out-o- the-box winner.

So kind, thank you so much Dee! That’s a great one! So decadent but not overly sweet at all. Especially if you love dark chocolate!

Thank you so much Nadia, that is so kind!
Sophia | Veggies Don't Bite
I am not much of a sweet potato lover when it comes to veggies, although I will eat them as french fries LOL, so I must turn to dessert to get in all the goodness this veggie has to offer! Which means I should probably eat all of these. You know, in the name of nutrition π

Um you never ever need to apologize for sweet potato bombing dessert! In my opinion anyway π I’m actually cool with it in subtle or massive quantities, but I do appreciate the clever ways you utilize them for texture without letting the flavor take over. 2012–you’ve been sweet potato baking since long before it was cool lol. And if this list isn’t a testament to their insane versatility than I don’t know what is! I smiled when I saw the email for this one pop into my inbox since I have been in full on sweet potato baking/dessert-ing mode myself lately. I am instantly drawn to the ice creams most here, because I know just how dreamy and creamy they are, but I haven’t explored sweet potato in fudge so perhaps either the toffee or chocolate version will be the fate of the massive white sweet potato currently sitting in my kitchen. Or the pumpkin pie. But then again sprinkles. I think I need more sweet potatoes and hours in the day π

You and I just need to go on a sweet potato adventure and make every dang thing we can think of putting sweet potatoes in, haha! Like I said on your IG yesterday, I knew you would appreciate this upcoming post, haha! SO funny we both posted sweet potato dessert theme posts in the same week, but it seems like we are always doing similar things on the same week…because, hey, great minds think alike, LOL!

Yummy! I love your sweet potato recipes and have never seen anyone do such amazingly creative (and tasty!) things with them! π I love using them in desserts as well; they add such an awesome flavor!

I wish all your sweet potato recipes indicated how prominent the sweet potato flavor is. As a long time hater of sweet potato (over 50 years), I know I need to eat it due to all the nutrients the veggie has. I will even eat sweet potato pie if it has lots of pumpkin pie spice in it to mask the sweet potato flavor. I am eager to try your ‘Mexican Chocolate Sweet Potato Pudding recipe above due to your hint that the potato flavor doesn’t come through. Your recipes might inspire me to eat more sweet potatoes. Thanks!

Hi Kat! I’ve just edited it to mention that. You do not taste sweet potatoes in really any of these. I use them for body/texture and to aid in natural sweetness, but I don’t use large amounts because I’m always trying to create desserts that still taste like DESSERT and a traditional dessert…in other words, you will see I don’t use huge amounts because I don’t want my desserts to taste like mashed potatoes, haha. The only one you might taste sweet potato is the caramel, but even with that, it is so sweet and rich it just tastes like caramel. My hubby loves it and had no clue sweet potato was in it and he HATES sweet potatoes. Hope that helps clarify!
